A billionaire urged Apple and Meta to buy Bitcoin.

Billionaire Tim Draper, founder of the venture capital firm Draper Associates, has criticized Apple and Meta for ignoring Bitcoin and failing to build corporate reserves of the leading cryptocurrency. Draper explained that these tech giants could purchase the cryptocurrency to protect their capital against currency devaluation and financial instability. The billionaire is concerned about rising US government spending and national debt, which could undermine the dollar's stability. Draper believes that current US monetary policy could lead to hyperinflation or force the central bank—the Federal Reserve—to drastically raise interest rates. Either scenario could erode consumer purchasing power, increase borrowing costs, and create serious financial hardship for Americans. Draper views Bitcoin not merely as a volatile asset suitable for corporate reserves, but also as a hedge against inflation. The businessman describes Bitcoin as a cornerstone of an alternative economy powered by blockchains and smart contracts. The investor is convinced that such an economy could reduce corporate reliance on accountants, payment service providers, and other financial intermediaries. He also believes that artificial intelligence could accelerate Bitcoin adoption by simplifying the development of cryptocurrency applications and payment services. The billionaire is confident that holding capital in BTC is far safer than in traditional banks, as quantum computers are likely to compromise centralized financial systems long before they could breach the decentralized Bitcoin network. In any case, should a genuine threat from quantum computing arise, network participants could coordinate changes to Bitcoin, Draper explained. However, the entrepreneur lamented that tech companies have so far shown little urgency in acquiring the leading cryptocurrency. At its annual shareholder meeting in December 2024, Microsoft rejected the idea of purchasing Bitcoin; the initiative was supported by holders of just 0.55% of the company's shares (approximately 28.23 million votes). In May 2025, Meta’s board of directors also upheld the company's cautious stance regarding direct investments in cryptocurrency. Shareholders of the cloud software developer Salesforce and the fast-food chain McDonald’s likewise declined to accumulate Bitcoin, citing the cryptocurrency's volatility and regulatory uncertainty. Currently, MicroStrategy is considered the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin; the company recently purchased an additional 950 bitcoins for $75.7 million, bringing its total holdings to 846,000 BTC.
